How does dandruff occur?
The skin cells at the skin’s surface permanently renew themselves. Normally, the detachment of old skin cells is not visible to the naked eye. If the scalp becomes unbalanced, this renewal process is disturbed. Due to increased secretion of sebum on the scalp, germs and microorganisms that occur naturally on the skin may exhibit increased growth and disrupt the scalp’s balance. As a consequence, the degradation products of sebum irritate the scalp and result in scalp itch. This results in increased detachment of skin cells. The excess sebum makes these skin cells stick together to form large, visible dandruff.
